Expanded Transitional Kindergarten

ETK Program

ETK Program

 Extended Transitional Kindergarten

is for preschool children who will turn 5 between December 3, 2017 and June 30, 2018.  This program will completely replace the district’s old half-day preschool, the School Readiness and Language Development Program (SRLDP).Unlike SRLDP, the new ETK program  is a full day class (6 hours a day, 5 days week).  Also, unlike the TK program in place at all LAUSD neighborhood schools, ETK is available only at a select few schools which includes Wilshire Crest Elementary.

The ETK class at Wilshire Crest is taught by Eileen Washington, a Sycamore Square resident and National Board Certified teacher, who says she is excited about how well the children learn primarily through play.  "The children not only leave with Kindergarten readiness skills but they develop their higher level thinking skills. They are able to explore a problem and cooperatively come up with solutions with little adult help. We not only give them a good foundation of academic readiness skills  but we prepare them with social-emotional skills such as cooperation, perseverance and patience that will support them throughout their life."
