Principal's Message

Ms. Robinson

Welcome from the Wilshire Crest Family,

I am so excited to welcome my new families and continuing families. Here at Wilshire Crest Elementary it is our desire to ensure that every student comes to school excited to learn and knowing that our staff is invested in their learning.

This year our school will continue to work on setting and reaching attainable goals, working smarter and increasing our student achievement in all subject areas.  Our biggest focus this year will be on meeting or exceeding the Common Core Standards in English Language Arts, Math and Science. We will place a high emphasis on the math and science standards to prepare our students for the demands of a higher education. Students will be introduced to Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) math strategies and incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards with fidelity.  Students will be expected to work hard, develop and use those critical thinking skills and be problem-solvers of real world applications.

It is also our desire that our students become Bilingual and Bi-literate. Research has found a meaningful connection between dual language immersion programs and academic success regardless of a student's native language. Therefore, for this school year we have implemented our first Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program in Kindergarten. These students will develop a high level of thinking, listening, speaking, reading, writing proficiency in the English and the partner language.

I am confident that giving our students opportunities to participate in rigorous project-base learning, engaging our students in meaningful discussions, become readers of complex text, having accessibility to technology as a pathway to digital citizenship and promoting social justice responsibility that our students will be able to reach their fullest academic potential and grow into a productive citizen thus creating a better world.

I am looking forward to working with all of you and hope that we have your support in helping your child/children to become that great person that they were meant to become.  Thank you again for being a part of the Wilshire Crest family and please don’t be a stranger. Remember the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”.
